Well, here it is, the first video of a series of four for Barry Wells’ Leap Year Challenge he’s hosting – An Internet Marketing Video Challenge and Everyone is Invited.
I decided on the topic ‘Tips Promoting Products as an Affiliate’ as this ties in with a little site project I’m working on and it’s the things I’ve learnt along the way.
I did put some cute little graphs in, as it does take the plainness away and makes it a bit more interesting but for some reason my system then had problems saving the audio. So, took them out.
I’ve put on video a power-point presentation I put together, the quality of the sound is good, only the volume is up and down. The first and last slide is rather laud but you will need high volume for the ones in between – they’re a little quieter. Oh, one of these days I’ll get it right.
Thanks again for watching, do leave your comments and I hope to see you again next week.

Hi Julie,
FIRST CLASS mate, not only have you produced a first class video but the lesson is also first class mate.
So many people get it so wrong when it comes to promoting products and they wonder why they never make any money.
Last year i wanted to promote a product for Kindle Publishing, which as you know is very hot at the moment. So I purchased the product and then not only did i work my way through it, applying everything as I went but I also tested the product creator.
I sent them 3 emails asking stupid questions that were detailed (and answered) in the first few pages of the eBook to see what response I would get. They came back quickly and answered every question with patients and in detail.
Once I had seen how good they were with their customers I emailed them again and told them that I was going to write a review of the product and mention the emails I had sent.
I then asked if I could have a discount to offer my readers and was pleasantly surprised when I was offered 3 prices to choose from. Obviously i took the cheapest one as i like to look after my readers.
That review gave me my best results in Affiliate marketing I have ever had and still earns me money today.
I used the exact same method you have detailed in your post Julie so if people listen to you and follow your advice then they’ll make money as long as the review is honest.
For some strange reason Commentluv won’t open for me to place the link in for that review. So I’ll paste it in here if that’s ok Julie.

Again, I have to congratulate you on a first class video and lesson mate. I look forward to the next one
Well done mate, have a fantastic day

Hi Barry,
Thank you so much for your wonderful compliments Barry, that’s really pleased me. I was quiet chuffed myself actually with the end result.
I too have learnt, although the creators sales pages usually are very good – obviously – but reading about a buyers/users first hand experience with a product – does sell better. And, there’s the proof with your own experience as you’ve explained here with the Kindle Publishing software.
CommentLuv? hmmm? I usually reply in the admin, but am putting commentluv to the test here – will see what happens when I click the red button – Yikes! I did go into edit on your comment (put your link in bold while there) and updated to see if it would kick-in then – it didn’t. I also deactivated then reactivated – still nothing. Will scratch the head a bit more on it later.
Thanks again Barry.

Hi Julie
Super content! As Barry says, so many people get it wrong when promoting as an affiliate.
These days I make a point to only promote products that I have either bought myself and use in my business, or that a fellow marketer has asked me to write a review about…and only then If I like it.
It takes ages to build a decent reputation and only a few seconds to kill it.
I look forward to your next video and love the music
cheers

Hello Steve and Welcome,
Yes, I was one of those people and all. Promoted the creators sales page, but one lives and learns along the way to put them-self in the shoes of the buyer. What makes you yourself click the ‘buy’ link? And it’s usually a recommendation from someone who has bought and uses it.
Glad you like the music Steve, I was thinking of something abit more mallow for next week or on the other hand – it is a bit of a wake for anyone who’s perhaps drifted off during the presentation
Thanks Steve for stopping by and leaving your comment – much appreciated.

Hi Julie,
Found you on Barry’s video challenge page.
You did a very nice video here explaining how to market an affiliate product. I actually have a review site set up that I will write a review on the product, but I need to promote that a bit more to get some people interested.
I have never put up my own landing page, but sounds like a good alternative.
I enjoyed watching your video Julie!

Hello Linda and Welcome,
Yes, you really should get promoting your review site. I think a review blog-site is one of the best to have, you then only need to promote that one site for however many products you’re promoting. A good one is having part of a report as a freebie, no sign-up just download, but it cuts off at a ‘oh god, I got to know’ point with a link to .. sign in here to receive the full report. If they sign in requesting the full report, they’re usually pretty interested in buying.
I’ve also seen people write up such great reviews about products or programs, I could imagine their prospects probably not even bothering to read the creators ‘sales-letter’ as the recommendation review has said it all to the point – I want this!
Thanks Linda for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

Hi Julie
Excellent video, I agree with you that you should only promote affiliate products that you have either purchased or personally reviewed.
Too many money grabbers promote anything and everything with no thought for their readers, all they can see is $$$.
The only consolation is that they eventually get sussed out and lose any reputation they might have had.
Bill

Hi Bill,
Thank you so much for your complement on the video. I agree with you about the money grabbers, it may be a little extra work but well worth it doing it right.
Thanks also Bill for putting up the extra link on your post ( http://walksintameside.co.uk/blog/walks-in-tameside-chew-valley-circuit/ ) for those of us who’ve been cut-off because of restricted publishing rights, very good of you. At the same time the penny did drop with me and I turned on my ExpatShield, which then gave me access. I inserted your link here as my CommentLuv is not being very Luvable – I don’t know what it is.
Much appreciated Bill that you took the time to pop over. I look forward to seeing your next weeks adventures.

Well I definitely agree with everyone else Julie, you did a wonderful job.
Like everyone has pointed out already, most people coming into this don’t necessarily use the product first because I know it can get costly. But I’ve always just emailed the creator and told them that I would like to share the contents of their product and would then give me a copy. I’ve yet to have anyone turn me down.
Great job and will look forward to your remaining series Julie. I have no doubt it will be just as good.

Hi Adrienne,
Thank you Adrienne. I agree, starting out can be costly and one should really only buy a product if it’s needed.
Getting in contact with the creator is a terrific idea though and that you’ve always received a reply and your requests answered, that in itself answers any questions one may have about the creator’s credibility – a thumbs-up.
Thanks again Adrienne for stopping by and for your input, much appreciated.

Hi Julie

great video and yes many people do get it wrong when promoting affiliate products so your advice is spot on. I always create a landing page but not everyone does this and I think it’s a must.
I like Adrienne’s idea of contacting the creator and receiving a free copy
I shall look forward to the next video Julie!
Have a great day

Hi Pauline,
You are so right Pauline to create a landing page, it really does make sense and works. Like you, I too like Adrienne’s idea, as I said to her, in receiving an answer to her request, only adds credibility to the creator.
Many thanks for stopping by Pauline and commenting, I do appreciate it.

Hi Julie,
good advice here it’s suprising that so many marketers really don’t follow the process and take you too the hard sell right away.

Julie,
I have am just beginning my affiliate sales/marketing journey. Well, I tried last year and I did not do very well. I told myself I would streamline my blog this year and get it ready for the products I endorse, love and want to sell. And your video just sparked in me an idea that wasn’t there before. Thanks.

Hi Julie
First Class video and information. Your spot on in every sense and you have hit the nail right on the head.
I only promote products that I have personally used or have had a good review by someone I trust.
I think too many people just go out there and promote products just to try and earn a quick buck, they just don’t realise that they are not doing themselves any favours at all.
What was the music that was playing at the beginning of the video?
Again well done with the video Julie; first class and I can’t wait to see what you have for us in the next video Julie…
Take care, catch up soon

Hi Ian,
I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to answer. Really weird week and to top it off, ended up at the hospital with one of the boys. Nothing serious, but oh, the waiting around for hours and we still don’t know if his wrist is broken :-/
Anyways, thank you so much for your complements Ian, it really means alot – certainly a boost of confidence to get on with the next one. Which I hope will be up tomorrow.
The music at the beginning Ian, is the same as the music at the end of the video
Thanks Ian for stopping by and your input, I look forward to your coming up Movie making tips.

Hi Julie,
An excellent video and indeed like many have already commented, you have explained the subject brilliantly and the advice you have share is first class, especially the part about asking for a review copy, testing it before promoting it. I personally rarely promote anything and when I do, it’s usually for products or service that I have used and are able to help others if they get stuck after buying it.
Anyway keep up the great work

Thank you for your kind words, very encouraging and appreciated.
Yes Nigel, I see all the good people have learnt to promote the right way, it’s the only way that pays off, and I don’t just mean $’s but in many ways, in the end.
Thanks Nigel for stopping by and leaving your input.

Julie:
I loved the video. I to believe it is so important to only promote high quality products. And the best way to do this is to buy the product.
Too many marketers promote everything that comes out and this gets to be annoying. I can always tell when a product launch happens because I will get several emails about the same product, sometimes even the same email text. This tells me the marketer used the cut and past email provided by the owner of the product. Come on, how hard is it to re-write the email in their own words.
The one area I falter on is sending people directly to the product page instead of to a squeeze page first. I know I should capture their name and email especially of they are a buyer.
Great points all around on promoting products as an affiliate.
- Rick
Twitter: jmd164
Hello Rick and Welcome,
Glad you liked the video. Yes, the product launch, they are great, especially as there is always special offers with them. I know as an affiliate one often gets the mails to start promoting, and when there is more than one new product, there are those who just do’em all. It’s a matter of looking into or buying, just one and going for that. And you are right, it is not difficult to re-write the mails given.
I sometimes still do send to the product page, but am working on fixing that, as you said, even if they don’t buy that product, you capture them.
Thanks Rick for stopping by and giving your input.

Hey Julie
Cool music you added there it reminded me a bit of Meatloafs Bat out of hell (lol)
I think everyone that promotes affiliate products should come and watch this video because I’m soooooo sick of being promoted to by people that dont even use the product themselves…
Well done misses and glad to see your friendly face beaming at me and not that scary eye ha ha

Hi Dawn,
Oh, you won’t believe this, but I was actually looking for Meatloaf. Haven’t found it yet, have the CD, the boys hate it, but I’ve a load of music on my PC and I was sure I had some from Meatloaf and Bat out of Hell being one of them. Have to keep looking, wasn’t me who put them on and I’m still finding my way around things.
Thank you Dawn for your input and your little tips
Much appreciated.
Oh and the eye, I found an even better one, you’d love it – really.
Have a good one Dawn

Hi Julie, finding a high quality product to promote is an important step that some people miss! It builds trust with your audience when they know you have taken the time to use the product yourself.
btw – are you going to talk about affiliate links or any plugins like pretty link? I think it helps a lot when you can use tools that help you keep track of what products are getting more attention than others.
Thanks for the video Julie! Barry’s challenge is really an awesome way for us to connect with each other.

Hi Ileane,
Yes, finding quality products to use for ones self is important and when you find that, that is the product to promote. It’s much easier.
As for tracking tools for affiliate links, as membership sites/affiliate networks (the ones I have anyway) do have tracking software, it’s something I’ve not looked into. But, as you say, for a stop spot with all together as a guide is a great idea. I have installed ‘Pretty Link’ for a start and am going to start working with it and see what I think. A good idea Ileane – thanks.
I too have enjoyed Barry’s challenge, it was fun and boy, did I pick up some terrific tips. I’ve bookmarked his challenge page so I can refer to any of the links when the need may be.
Thanks Ileane for stopping by and contributing your input – much appreciated.
